One of The keys to the web is "discovery" - how to help visitors "discover" your site. Understanding the words or combinations of words that surfers are searching on is vital to your success on the internet. You need to get into your client's mind set to help them "discover" you. To obtain a good listing on major search engines you need to understand how each engine uses keywords. Each engine uses its own criterion for weighting a result. We decided to experiment with the two related words which appear consistency in the top 300 words searched for weekly on the internet - "thong" and "thongs". Some users may be satisfying some carnal desire but others may be searching for sites to purchase these goods. Understand why users are searching for specific words is key to marketing yourself accordingly. In the sample set of results below if you add the results for "thong" (68468) and "thongs" (47026) you get a total of 115494 searches which puts it in position 9 during the period of the results. The position is an indicator of the popularity of this search and is important in understanding how you will get to the top of the search results. Keywords should be relevant to your site. There is no point using a keyword that is popular but unrelated because the user will simply leave as soon as they realise your site offers nothing of interest. It also wastes your server bandwidth and may affect performance at peak times. It is reported that 27.31% of people enter 2 words/phrases into search Engine, 28.25% look for 3 word entries and only 19% use single word entries. Thus it’s more important to create phrases that use more than one keyword. The same principle applies to your keywords - refine those words to make them more specific. Our job is to help you discover the right words for your search engine optmisation programme. |
